Creating a Fair
1. Create a FAIR
To create a new FAIR, select the “Create FAIR” option on the First Articles menu.
You can select from the following options on the Create FAIR page:
- Create New: Generate a new FAIR containing original data.
- Copy From Existing: Generate a FAIR based on an existing FAIR's data
- Import From External: Generate a FAIR from a source outside of Net-Inspect
Supply the information indicated on the page and then click the Start FAI Report button to generate a new FAIR. All the fields shown on this page are mandatory.
Organization Name
Account name. Normally includes both the company's name and a location identifier. Cannot be edited.
From Division
Division within the Suppler, usually corresponding with a facility or location. This field will only appear if divisions have been configured in your company's Net-Inspect account.
Depending on your company's security settings, you may only be able to select divisions that are aligned with your User ID and with the part record.
Customer
Company or organization that receives the First Article.
If your account's Organization Name and the selected Customer are the same, and if your account has enabled the "Part-Level Security" preference, then the selected "Program" and "From Division" (if available) must also match the Program and Division indicated in the part record.
To Division
Division within the Customer, usually corresponding with a facility or location. This field will only appear if the customer has configured divisions in their Net-Inspect account. It may be necessary to enter a Part Number before selecting a To Division.
Though any To Division can be chosen on a FAIR, the selected division may need to match the customer's part record in order for the customer to open the FAIR.
FAIR Program
Airplane program or other group to which the First Article belongs.
If the "Enhanced Security" setting is enabled in your Net-Inspect account, then you must choose from the list of Programs belonging to the selected Customer, and you may only select a Program that has been assigned to your User ID. If Enhanced Security is disabled, then any of your own account's programs may be selected.
If your program list is empty or is missing the program you need, then your account's administrator may need to align your User ID with programs. Your FAIR's Customer may also need to create the program before it can be assigned to you.
Your Customer may also choose to limit the Programs that can be assigned to a particular part number. If you're unable to select a necessary program that has already been set up and assigned to you, then the Program may need to be assigned to the Part Number by the customer. If this is the case, then you may need to contact the customer for assistance before proceeding.
Part Number
Number of the part.
If your selected customer has enabled the "Part-Level Security" preference, then the Part Number that you enter must match a part record already set up by that customer. If no such record exists, then the Customer must create it before you can proceed. You'll be prompted to file a "Part Number Request" upon entering a part number in this case.
If your company or the selected customer has enabled the "Part-Level Security" preference, then the Part Number that you enter must currently be active. If the part record has been removed (through the "Part & Feature Setup" page on the Quality Management menu), then you will receive an error upon attempting to create the FAIR. If the part was removed in error, then you may need to contact the customer for assistance with activating it again.
Part Name
Name of the part as shown on the drawing.
Manufacturing Process Reference
A reference number that provides traceability to the manufacturing record of the part (e.g., its routing number or manufacturing number).
Once your FAIR has been created, it can be accessed again at any time by opening your list of Internal FAIRs, or by entering the FAIR Number or Part Number in the Search field.
2. Complete Form 1
- The Customer and Program fields, located in the bottom-left of the form, must be completed in order to save Form 1.
- To provide traceability, a Supplier and FAIR Number must be entered for all entries in the Index of Part Numbers section. This information can be provided automatically if you enter the Part Number of a FAIR that already exists in Net-Inspect.
3. Complete Form 2
- Each entry must have both a Material or Process Name and a Specification Number.
- The Upload button in the Reference Document field can be used to attach and link a document to a material or process spec.
4. Complete Form 3
- The GDT Callout field can be used to replicate a characteristic's GD&T callout frame. This is optional, and should not be done for features that do not have a callout frame on the drawing.
- A characteristic's Requirement can be provided by entering its nominal, tolerances, or specification values. Use the Tolerance Type drop-down menu to choose the format that best matches your model or drawing.
- The Measurement Type field can be used to specify the format of a characteristic's results: Variable (numeric), Attribute (Go/No-go), or Not Reportable (not applicable to characteristic).
5. Upload Attachments
- Files can be selected by highlighting them in a folder on your computer, and then dragging them into the "drag and drop" panel
6. Complete FAIR Checklist (if applicable)
- Checklists can be configured by the FAIR's Customer. If the customer has not set up a checklist, then this section of the FAIR will not be available.
- Responses ("Yes" or "N/A") must be provided for each of the checklist's questions. Comments can be provided to explain responses, if needed.
- Once you have finished, click the Sign button to lock the checklist and provide your signature.
7. Sign each FAIR form
- Click the Sign button located in the top-right (and bottom-left) of each form to lock it. Each form must be signed before the FAIR can be submitted.
- All of the FAIR's forms can be signed at once using the Sign buttons on Form 1.
8. Complete FAIR Workflow (if applicable)
- A workflow step can only be completed by a user who is assigned to the appropriate Department or Workcenter by an administrator.
- Each workflow step represents a stage in the FAI process. The FAIR can only be submitted once all workflow steps have been completed.
9. Submit FAIR
- A FAIR can be submitted by clicking the Submit button located in the top-right of Form 1 (or in the Reviewed By field).
- If the FAIR's Customer does not have the FAI Buyoff setting enabled in their account, then a Close button will appear in place of the Submit button.
- Once a FAIR is submitted, it is locked against all further edits unless the Customer chooses to disapprove or reset it.
- When your FAIR is submitted, a notification will be emailed to all users in your Customer's account that are set up as Inspectors for your company.
