APQP/PPAP: Part Family
The APQP/PPAP Part Family capability allows "similar parts" to be listed on an APQP/PPAP package belonging to a single "lead part." A part family can consist of a simple list of part numbers, part names, and part revs; a linked list of APQP/PPAP packages; or any combination of these. Linking a Similar Part package allows users to check the status of that package, as well as its Final Approval Form, via the Lead Part package. Note that the system will not enforce that the similar part package be completed prior to the lead part package.
If a Package has been included in a Part Family as a Similar Part, then a label will be shown below the Package #:
The Lead Part package is also labeled:
The APQP/PPAP "list" pages indicate whether a package is a Lead or Similar Part package. If the package is for a Lead Part, then the "Part Family # of Parts" column will show the number of similar parts associated with it. If the package for a Similar Part, then the "Part Family Lead Part #" column will show the part number of the Lead Part it is linked to. The user can click this part number to open the Lead Part package.
The Lead Part package option
Each package has an option on the package info tab for toggling whether the part is a Lead Part. This field is set to "No" by default.
Updating this field to "Yes" will cause the Part Family Info section to be displayed.
To update the field back to "No", all Similar Parts that have been added must first be deleted. This is also necessary before Voiding the APQP package.
Adding/deleting/editing parts and/or packages to the part family table
Adding a Similar Part
Rows can be added to the Part Family table individually by clicking the "+ ADD SIMILAR PARTS" button.
You can also click the button's drop-down arrow to add multiple parts to the table at a time.
Selecting a Similar Part Package
- Entering a value in the part number field will filter the list of packages available in the "Pkg #" drop down by that value.
- Selecting a Pkg # will automatically complete the Part #, Part Name, and Part Rev fields. These fields can then no longer be edited unless the Pkg # is removed.
Editing a Similar Part
To edit a row, click its pencil icon. If a row is not yet associated with a package, then the Part #, Part Name, and Part Rev fields will all be editable. If a row is already associated with a package, then only the Pkg # can be modified.
