PPAP Deliverables: Import from Excel
Net-Inspect provides an excel template that must be used to import data into PPAPD records. When transferring data to the excel file, please copy and paste as values (ALT +E+S+V or right click and paste as values) to ensure proper data formatting. The first row below the header of the import template details the formatting requirements/restrictions (you do not need to delete this to import). Be sure to use the most recent template as changes may have been made that may impact your ability to import.
Users can import data into PPAPD in two ways:
- Via the create: import page. This option will import into all three deliverables if shared columns are populated or other columns related to the deliverables: PFD, PFMEA, and CP
- Via the import option inside each deliverable tab. This is accessed via the "Actions" drop down. Read more about this specific action via this article: PPAP Deliverables: Import
Import Rules for Requirements Column Data
When importing, all variation of specification types are listed as separate columns on the import template. This is to make importing easier for our system to determine the input and make it reportable and useful. This means tolerance type is not a column in the requirements group for import. The system will automatically determine the tolerance type using the following logic:
- If entry includes an upper and lower specification and no nominal then treat as tolerance type “Range Inclusive”
- If only an upper specification or high tolerance is entered, treat tolerance type as “Unilateral Upper”
- If only a lower specification or low tolerance is entered, treat tolerance type as “Unilateral Lower”
- If only nominal entered, treat tolerance type as “Basic Dimension”
- If nominal and high and low tolerances are entered, treat tolerance type as “Bilateral”
- If nominal and high and low tolerances are added (which are the same), treat tolerance type as “Symmetrical”
- If no specification data is entered, tolerance type is "Blank"
Excel Import Validation Errors
When importing via Excel into Net-Inspect, validation errors may occur such as the ones displayed below.
We will identify import errors for the following reasons:
- Document type is not valid
- Character limits are reached
- Date formats are incorrect
- Cell type is incorrect. All text columns are of cell type "General" or "Text". Numerical columns are "General" cell types but use a drop down
- Lack of entry for a required column
All errors will include the specific row # and column name in the error message which allows you to pinpoint the exact cell causing the errors. All errors must be resolved in the excel spreadsheet and can then be reselected for import from the create page.
You may also experience errors while trying to paste data into the import template. Please note:
- We have cell character limitations imbedded in the excel file but they do not work if data is pasted over a cell: only if data is entered in the cell while it is "open" or when values are pasted as text (ALT + E+S+V)
- We do not allow RPN to pasted into. Please copy and paste data around that column
